MANDATE

Growing up in the sparsely populated Saskatchewan prairies, with nothing between myself and grassland fields and aspen bluffs but a rusty barbed-wire fence, I developed a strong interest in nature and the intricate interactions within natural systems – ecology. And so, it is that initial passion for nature that guides my career objectives, passions and interests towards the pursuit of understanding human-nature interactions and working to conserve and protect the natural landscapes that we ultimately rely on. To me, conservation also means the sharing of knowledge and experiences, as well as using that knowledge to integrate nature into the built environment; that is, we should view ourselves as, not above or outside, but as part of the ecosystem.

As much as I enjoy experiencing and viewing the natural world, I equally enjoy capturing images of it. I am an avid conservation/nature photographer and aim to integrate photography with my professional career. I try to present my research and work using a highly visual approach. We live in a visual age, and communicating science to people will more and more demand visual presentations and creativity to capture interest and evoke understanding and action.

This website is an online repository of some of my photographs, as well as some of my projects, research or work that use imaging or is based on a highly visual approach.
